We think we can all agree that our Christmas party was a resounding success. The evening started with a performance of 'O Holy Night' by Cate and Judith. We were also treated to the inaugural recitation of Cate’s latest poem ‘ChristmasCollywobbles’ which, as usual, was fabulous.
With great food, and entertainment by magician Carl John, members were seen to be really enjoying themselves.Four lucky members were the winners of M&S vouchers, and the evening was rounded off by group carols led by Cerys.
Christmas Collywobbles by Cate Hopkins
It is a truth universally acknowledged that Christmas starts in June,
Before we’re done with summer fun, commitments start to loom.
It starts with the odd advert, or reminder to hold the date,
But there’s a strict upper limit, so you’re asked to commit that you’ll be there and won’t be late!
Too quickly it’s September, and a bite is in the air,
The leaves are a-changing, and storms are a-raging, and sunny days start to become rare.
But as you tuck your thermals into your pants, the joyous prospect arises,
Of picking up gifts and nick-nacks and treats, and all manner of festive surprises.
October now and the nights draw in, we’re starting to feel a bit bleurgh
But there is a reason for the season, and that reason, we’re told, is to hygge.
So we all cosy up in our fluffy warm socks, and sip soup from a large, steaming mug.
And with never a care, in our blanket-fort lair, we’re snug as a bug in a rug.
Halloween’s passed and November is here, winter really is starting to bite,
And although we all know we really should go, and get our gifts sorted, right?
“But it’s ok, you know, I picked up a few bits in the middle of Lidl this morning.
Look, this one has wings, and this one, it sings! Just ignore this one’s health warning.”
Before we know it, December is here, we’re shocked it’s come around so quickly!
Oh panic! Oh woe! I really must go to the shops, and be back home for Strictly!
But I can’t go today, I’ve got friends coming to stay, and tomorrow’s the candlelit service,
There’s concerts and parties and dinners and drinks... Oh I really am starting to get nervous!
It’s December the ‘cough’ and it’s all kicking off, I’m booked to have fun every night,
But with nairy a present, it’s getting unpleasant - that ‘25th’ deadline is tight.
But wait! Relax, just stop and think - you’ll get it all done after all.
If you work all day Sunday and don’t sleep on Monday... and promise them all something small.
And suddenly, magically, Christmas is here, and you’re drinking champagne in your ‘jamas,
And hoping that loved ones will be far too drunk to wonder why you’ve adopted them llamas,
It’s only one day, after all, isn’t it? One day shouldn’t be something to fear,
So we’ll do it next year, and the year after that, with a smile and a song and a cheer!
