Birchgrove Womens Institute

Welcome to the Official website of Birchgrove WI, Cardiff

We formed in 2012 and have a membership covering a wide age range.

It's a place to make new friends, meet up with old ones, learn new skills and above all have fun!

We meet on the fourth Thursday of each month at Llwynfedw Gardens Pavilion, Birchgrove, Cardiff, CF14 4NX at 7.30pm

We welcome a diverse range of speakers and offer members the opportunity to get involved with new activities and campaign on issues that matter to them. We have additional social evenings, sub-groups and trips throughout the year.

We welcome visitors and prospective new members - if you want to let us know beforehand that you are thinking of coming along to a meeting we'll ensure one of our dedicated greeters is there to meet you. We also have dedicated 'buddies' to sit and chat with new members and visitors and introduce them to the members.

Birchgrove WI is always happy to welcome new members. You can attend two meetings as a visitor with no charge, however you will be asked to join if you attend for a third time.
Please note you cannot attend any sub-groups as a visitor.

Annual Fees for 2025/26 are £46

If you are new to WI and join part-way through the year, you will be charged a pro-rata amount.

If you belong to another WI then there is a reduced fee for dual membership.

The only additional costs which could be incurred are for optional trips or for purchasing tea, coffee, or cake.

There are several sub-groups that you can join at no extra cost.

The Book Group meets at 7.30pm every second Thursday each month. Meetings are currently held at the County Conservative Club, 163 Caerphilly Rd, Cardiff, CF14 4QB.
This is a very sociable, fun sub-group and the varied book choices always trigger heated discussions! Each year we select from a list of over 300 titles provided by Cardiff Libraries. There is no charge for borrowing the books.  Contact Person: Barbara Rossiter

Craft and Chatter Group The Craft and Chatter group meet on the 3rd Thursday of the month at the County Conservative Club, 163 Caerphilly Rd, Cardiff, CF14 4QB. We meet in the large upstairs room so there is plenty of space available to accommodate us and our craft projects. Please bring along one of your current craft projects so that we can get the craft and chat vibe going! If you wish to buy a drink, please collect that at the bar on your left from the club entrance before coming upstairs. The larger meeting room is on the left at the top of the stairs. We meet at 7.30pm until about 9pm.

The Climate Action Group
is a sub group committed to spreading awareness about climate change to the wider WI community through planned events and presentations, sharing tips and ideas with members to live more sustainably. Our Climate Ambassador is Barbara Moore.

Gardening Club An opportunity to share gardening tips, cuttings, seeds and discuss all things horticultural. Potential visits to gardens/parks/allotments/shows (Costs may be associated). Meets monthly at varying times. Contact person: Chris Synan.
